Will insurance cover this procedure?

We have had tremendous success with several insurance companies within the state of California and throughout the nation. Carrier-to-carrier and state-to-state may differ on the coverage of this procedure.
  • Prior to the surgery we submit a letter requesting preliminary review of the procedure.
  • The insurance company will usually respond within 2-4 weeks about the coverage of this procedure.
  • If the initial response is favorable we can proceed and schedule your appointment.

Sometimes the response is "this procedure is considered investigational and therefore not covered under your plan." If the latter response is received an appeal will be initiated. The appeal process may take 6 weeks to 1 year and will require some patience and assistance on your part. Several cases have been approved through the appeal process, but there are still several cases pending approval.

Patients who do not have insurance coverage often use a third party financing company, www.patientfinance.com to assist with payment. This company offers a 3 months same as cash benefit.

Keratoconus is the thinning and bulging of the cornea. Treatments include Holcomb C3-R®, cornea collagen cross linking, and if keratoconus progresses to a serious level, cornea transplantation. Dr Brian Boxer Wachler is a specialist in keratoconus evaluation and treatment.
